Netflix is trying to put this on lock down, and has largely banned software that spoofs your location. Thankfully, users can still easily access another country’s Amazon Prime TV libraries using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). For your convenience, we’ve come up with a list of the 5 best VPNs for Amazon!

Best VPN for Amazon: Summary

NordVPN Homepage
PROS:
  • No logs policy
  • Tough encryption
  • Servers in 47 countries
  • Great clients across platforms
CONS:
  • Medium speeds

Panamanian provider NordVPN is a great pick for Amazon Prime fans who are also security conscious. In addition to features requisite for streaming – such as six simultaneous connections and servers in 47 countries – it has some excellent privacy features, such as 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption, multi-hop VPN tunneling, and a strict no logs policy.

There have been reports of NordVPN not being the fastest VPN service out there but, for many individuals, online privacy is worth the cost of a little lag. If you would like to give this great provider a try, you can give it a spin via the button below. Like the above VPNs, it has a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try out the service knowing that you can get your cash back should you ultimately decide that it’s not for you.

4. Buffered

Buffered Homepage
PROS:
  • Fast speeds
  • Supports P2P
  • No usage logs
  • Servers in 45 countries
CONS:
  • A little pricey

Hungary-based provider Buffered is a relatively new service, but still impresses. The speedy and reliable service has a number of enticing features for those shopping around for a VPN to use with Amazon Prime TV, including five simultaneous connections, decent encryption, minimal logging, and great clients across platforms.

The reason why Buffered only earned the fourth spot on our list of the best VPNs for Amazon Prime? It only has servers in 45 countries – low in comparison to the providers listed above. However, it services all the major locations that most people will be looking to unlock, so this is hardly a downside. Press the button below to give Buffered a try!

VyprVPN Homepage
PROS:
  • Zero logs policy
  • Auto-kill switch
  • Six simultaneous connections
  • P2P support
CONS:
  • Speeds are iffy at times

VyprVPN is another great choice for an Amazon Prime VPN. Not only does VyprVPN own and operate all of its own hardware, but there’s also optional VyprDNS services. This makes it especially easy to unblock Amazon Prime’s geo-restricted content. Furthermore, by owning their own hardware, VyprVPN offers reliability to its users.

The only downside to VyprVPN is that sometimes, its speeds are a little slower. This can depend on what servers you use, and is easily fixed by exploring different speeds on different servers. In the end, there’s only one way to find out if VyprVPN will live up to your Amazon Prime VPN expectations! Try out VyprVPN by clicking the button below!

What is a VPN?

A VPN – short for “virtual private network” – is a way to protect yourself online. Instead of connecting to the internet via a direct connection, a VPN connects to a private server, effectively masking your identity. For those of us Amazon Prime Instant Video users, this can come in handy. After all, no one wants to deal with the geographical restrictions that make it hard to even watch Amazon in the first place.

The restriction on viewer access is unfair and petty in general. If you are paying for an entire month of Amazon Prime, you should be able to watch it for the entire month that you paid for – no matter where you are. Not to mention that Amazon Prime probably runs a service in the foreign country that you travel to. So how much effort would it take them to allow your subscription to be valid there as well?

This is exactly why a VPN is useful for those of us that want to maximize our Amazon subscriptions to their fullest potential. If you want truly unlimited access to TV shows and movies, start setting up your VPN connection right now.

Amazon Prime vs. Amazon Instant Video?

Amazon Prime is a service that allows subscribers certain advantages over non-subscribed members. Amazon Instant Video is a component of Amazon Prime that allows subscribers the ability to stream Amazon movies and TV shows.

While Amazon Instant Video is available to all Amazon Prime members, we don’t have to purchase Amazon Prime to access their unlimited movies and TV shows if we don’t want to. Why? Because Amazon offers their unlimited movies and TV show streaming service as a separate package!

The separate subscription service is extremely handy if you have or are interested in having an Amazon Fire TV stick: a product that allows you to have your subscription services and more all in one place.

Why does Amazon restrict titles based on location?

The reason Amazon Prime Video creates these access restrictions is because the company is tied up by a whole range of legal agreements. It needs a license to operate in each of the countries that its services are offered in.

Although the video server may be in the United States, and you may have a subscription in that country, if you access the service from another country then you are technically creating a transmission of the video in that location. In other words: Amazon Prime Video might not have permission to deliver entertainment in that country, and so if it didn’t stop you from accessing its content, both it and you would be breaking the local laws. This is where an Amazon Prime Instant Video, Hulu, or even Netflix VPN will come in handy.

Does this mean I can’t watch Amazon Prime outside of the US?

While you are technically not allowed to watch content on Amazon that’s out of your geographical location, you can still do it by using a VPN.

As it is right now, Amazon Prime is growing fast in popularity. The demand for access to content that’s geographically restricted is growing hand in hand with this rise in popularity. Users are starting to get smarter at finding ways around these unjust restrictions.

This is exactly why you need a VPN to maximize the full use of Amazon Prime. Luckily, it’s not difficult at all to install a VPN. Whether it’s an Amazon Instant Video VPN or a Netflix VPN that you need to install: it’s all easy.

How do I spoof my geo-location to unblock Amazon?

It’s easy to spoof your geo-location in order to unblock Amazon Prime content. Simply sign into your Amazon account and then:

  1. Navigate to “Your Account”
  2. Followed by “Digital Content”
  3. Select “Manage your Content and Devices”
  4. Select “Settings”
  5. Select “Country Settings”
  6. Change to the country whose content you want to watch and
  7. Sign up and install a VPN service!

Can I use a free VPN to watch Amazon Prime?

Yes, you can use a free VPN to watch Amazon Prime Instant Video. That being said, there are several drawbacks when it comes to using a free VPN. To begin, if speed is one of your main concerns when finding a reliable VPN service, you will have difficulty finding a contender in the Free VPNs section.

Free VPN services tend to offer restricted bandwidth, limited data, unreliable speeds, and a certain lack of security that makes the purpose of using a VPN in the first place kind of wasted. That being said, there are a few free VPN services that tackle most of what they’re supposed to – like masking your online identity or helping you access geographically restricted TV services.

How do I get the best speeds to watch Amazon Prime?

Getting the best speeds for your Amazon Prime is as easy as using a reliable VPN service that offers a direct connection to one reliable VPN server. The thing to remember here is that you get what you pay for. In other words: if you don’t pay for anything, you probably won’t be 100% satisfied with the result.

Do you really need to spend money on a VPN? Yes, you do. Paid VPN services can offer you everything you need and want when it comes to your streaming capabilities. Even better, there are a variety of different services available that offer affordable prices, unlimited bandwidth, and remarkable speeds. The best part is that VPNs can be used with most streaming services – whether it’s a Netflix VPN or an Amazon Instant Video VPN.

What devices can I use to watch Amazon Prime?

You can watch Amazon Prime on a variety of different platforms – whether it’s your preferred streaming video device or straight from your web browser! Watch Amazon Prime Instant Video on any of the following platforms:

  • Computers & website streaming (PC/Mac)
  • Fire Tablets (Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX, Fire HD, Fire HDX, etc.)
  • Fire Phone
  • Fire TV Stick
  • Set-top Boxes (Roku, TiVo, Google TV, etc.)
  • FireTV
  • iOS Devices (iPad, iPhone, etc.)
  • Android Devices (phones & tablets)
  • Gaming Consoles (PS3/PS4/Xbox One, etc.)
  • Smart TVs (Samsung, Sony, LG, etc.)
  • Blu-ray players

It’s also important to know that you can use a VPN with any platform, from iOS devices to Android devices.

In conclusion…

If you want to completely optimize the use of your Amazon Prime Instant Video – bypassing geographical restrictions to truly access unlimited TV shows and movies – then a VPN is necessary.

Not only can the right VPN service help you use your TV subscription services to their fullest potentials, but it can do so with neck breaking speeds, maximal data and unlimited bandwidth, all while protecting your online identity.

  1. hi ip vanish is not working with Amazon and hasnt since December 2017 i have an email from them admititting this fact if you need it so please remove from your list

    1. Hi dean,

Thanks for letting us know. I hope you understand that these lists are accurate when we publish them, but it can be hard to keep up with the ever-changing situation. I’ve added a note in the article that IPVanish no longer works, and we will replace it soon (once we have establish which VPNs do now work!).

  2. I’m a VyprVPN user and came across your article while searching for possible solutions to accessing Amazon Prime Video outside the US. It sounds like VyprVPN was listed here at one point but has since been removed. Not sure how else to get this feedback to your team – ‘geological’ was used multiple times in this article but it should be ‘geographical.’

    1. Hi Laura,

Thanks for spotting the error, which somehow fell through our editing process. I have let Mandee know.

  3. I got ExpressVPN yesterday to use with Amazon Prime, and it worked!

Now this morning (the next day) it’s not. I’ve tried multiply locations and all seems to be identified as proxies and won’t play the video.

What VPN works with Amazon Prime?

    1. Hi Jonas,

First contact ExpressVPN’s support team. It is very likely they are already working on a solution. The other VPNs listed above should work, but please be aware this is a cat-and-mouse game.

  4. This is late December 2017. I have tried 2 VPNs and contacted a third. The first one I installed claimed UK Amazon Prime availability in France but didn’t actually provide that access from the go-get. I contacted another who advertised Amazon Prime availability but when quizzed said they couldn’t do it – something about Amazon being more aggressive these days. The third VPN claimed they could get Amazon ….. and they did for 1 evening. Amazon quickly closed the connection. 2 days later the VPN regained access to Amazon for 1 afternoon before Amazon shut it down.
The larger point is “Do VPNs really work?”. If Amazon, Netflix and even my insurance company can see I am using a VPN, what’s the point?

    1. Hi vic,

Whether or not VPNs are being blocked by Amazon Prime is a cat-and-mouse game, and it does seem that Amazon is being more aggressive with its blocking at the moment. On the larger point, please see our VPNs for Beginners guide for how VPNs work, including a discussion on what they can and cannot be expected to do. Websites will always be able to see the IP address you connect from. If that website knows the IP address belongs to a VPN service, it can block it. Your real IP is still hidden from that website, your ISP (and governmnet) still don’t know what you get up to online, and WiFi hackers will still be unable to access your data. Most good VPNs usually find a way around these geo-blocks (for example by refreshing their IP stores or using fancy DNS routing), but as I say, it is a cat-and-mouse game.

    1. Hi Bob,

At the time of publication, VyprVPN had been working with Amazon Prime Video. We will remove it from the list while we investigate. We’re sorry for the trouble this may have caused you – we strive to keep these lists as up to date as possible. We will contact VyprVPN to see if they are working on regaining access to Amazon Prime Video. In the meantime, VyprVPN has a 30-day money-back guarantee that you can take advantage of, if you find yourself unsatisfied with the service.

      Cheers,
      Katrina
