If you need to unblock Now TV, you are going to need a VPN. One that is fast enough to stream online video. We’ve reviewed 150 different VPN companies over 5 years, with that in mind we’ve picked the fastest VPNs for you.

NOW TV is a convenient way to get both live and on-demand streaming entertainment over the internet from Sky, with shows like Game of Thrones Season 7 and The Walking Dead. However, you will have a problem if you try to access the service from outside the British Isles. Sky places regional restrictions on its servers. Thus, if you live outside the UK and Ireland, or if you go abroad on holiday, you won’t be able to get in.

Regional restrictions are common among online streaming services. We explain how these blocks work, and why companies like Sky employ them, further on in this review.

First of all, though, let’s take a look at a solution that will get you into NOW TV when you are outside the British Isles. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) mask your true location. By selecting a mediating server in the UK, you can fool the NOW TV website’s location detection procedures and watch your favorite programs while you are abroad.

If you know nothing about VPNs, then you’re in the right place. specializes in sharing information about VPNs and how to use them. This review focuses on VPNs for NOW TV. If you want to watch NOW TV abroad, any of our recommended five best VPNs will help you.

About VPNs for Streaming

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. VPNs provide you with added privacy online by disguising the source and destination of internet traffic. They can also make you appear to be in another country. This can help you to access services like NOW TV from overseas.

When you want to access a streaming service like NOW TV, which is restricted to UK viewers, it is important to select a VPN server in the same country as that service. This means that requests to view the content show as coming from within the permitted region. All of the VPNs on this list have servers in the UK. That means you can use them to bypass the regional restrictions of NOW TV.

There is one more hurdle to overcome before you can get into the NOW TV service. The company knows that people use VPNs to bypass its access controls, so it has invested in VPN detection measures. As a result, very few VPNs can get into the service.

VPNs use a system of shared addresses. They buy blocks of IP addresses and when a customer logs into a VPN server, they are allocated one of those addresses. For the duration of the session, all of the communications will have that temporary address on them as the source address. That address does not lead back to the customer, but to the VPN server. When a session terminates, the address goes back into the pool to be assigned to another customer later.

Each VPN company owns a pool of thousands of addresses. This system is great for anonymity, because no one can tie a particular address to a specific customer. However, VPN detection systems now log the IP addresses of requests. When they suspect that a message was protected by a VPN, they block all future communication with that source.

The logging of VPN addresses means that a particular VPN company might get you into NOW TV one day and not the next. Top-of-the-line VPNs take steps to avoid these situations. They avoid buying sequential ranges of addresses because, if a detection system spots two VPN addresses that are numerically close, it will also block all the addresses that are between them.

VPN companies that commit to getting into NOW TV and other restricted sites regularly bin their pool of addresses and buy new ones. This is a time consuming and expensive task, which explains why free VPNs can never get you in.

How to Unblock Now TVs Regional Restrictions

Worried about missing Game of Thrones when you’re on holiday? Well, you may wonder why NOW TV goes to such lengths to block cross-border access to its content. After all, if it gets money from a customer, why should it care where that customer is physically located?

The problem is caused by legal obligations. Entertainment production companies sell the rights to broadcast a program or film to transmission companies. Those broadcasters buy the right to show a specific video in a named country. So, if company A has bought the rights to a particular show in France, it would be angry if NOW TV delivered that same show to people in France. NOW TV doesn’t have the legal right to do that under the terms of the contract it signed for that show.

Another complication is the matter of national laws. What you can and can’t say about someone is different in every country. In one country, you can say that someone is an idiot, while in another country you could go to jail for saying the same thing. Everyone involved in the transmission of entertainment is legally obliged to ensure that it does not breech the censorship laws of the country in which it’s shown, or offend or malign an individual in contravention of local laws.

The different legal and moral standards in each country mean that broadcasters have to edit content before they show it. Thus, when you watch a film in Turkey, it will be a little different to the same film that you watched in the UK.

Internet streaming services need to control who watches what content and from which location, in order to keep themselves out of legal trouble. This is why NOW TV imposes regional restrictions.

Best VPN for NOW TV: Conclusion

If you’re stuck overseas for work, or on holiday abroad with demanding kids, you’ll soon hanker for British TV. Get into your NOW TV account with one of our recommended VPNs to solve all of your entertainment problems.

  1. I have tried many VPNs with Now TV. Most are now blocked. The only ones I am aware of that still work are Skycardseu and nowuktv. Like the user above mentioned NordVPN has been blocked by Sky. I would recommend going for one of the two above to view Now TV abroad or try and find a similar service which specialises in VPN for streaming.

  2. Hi guys,

As far as my experience goes, NordVPN doesn’t work with Now TV. Their customer support confirmed they have no servers to unlock it. Can you please explain how did you manage to make NordVPN work for that?

    1. Hi, Jonny,

Now TV is part of the Sky system which has one of the toughest access controls in the world — worse than Netflix. The NordVPN server UK110-114 servers should work for Sky GO and Now TV. However, the VPN occasionally gets spotted and blocked, so success rates are variable.
