Looking to watch basketball online? Whether you want to watch NBA, college basketball, or even European leagues, there are several ways to catch all the games!

With March Madness and the NBA playoffs right around the corner, you don’t want to miss a minute of the action. With established NBA stars like Steph Curry and Lebron James, plus college talents like Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball facing off, 2017 is a huge year for basketball.

I’m going to highlight four of the best ways to watch basketball online, no matter where in the world you live. If you live outside the US, or need to access different regional markets to bypass blackouts, you will need a VPN to watch NBA games online.

How Can I Watch NBA Games Online?

  1. Choose from our top recommended VPNs for sports or choose a provider from the list below.
  2. Download and install the chosen VPN software on your internet-connected device.
  3. Connect to the VPN server. US residents will want a Canadian server to bypass blackout restrictions. Try to connect to the server that is closest to your actual location for optimal speed.
  4. Choose one of the viewing options I’ve listed below. Sign up and complete registration with the service (if necessary).
  5. Start watching NBA games online!

Best VPN for Basketball: Viewing Options

NBA League Pass

NBA League Pass is hands down the best option when it comes to watching NBA games online. You can choose from a couple of different plans (whole season, monthly, or per game) and there is support for iOS, Android, Roku, Chromecast, and Apple TV devices.

The only notable downside when using NBA League Pass is the blackout restrictions that affect certain US regions. US residents will need to use a VPN to access the international version of League Pass and bypass these blackout restrictions.

NBA League Pass

Simply connect to a VPN server outside of the US (such as the UK or Canada), go to the official website, and sign up for the international version of NBA League Pass to bypass NBA blackouts. Keep in mind you will have to connect to the VPN each time you watch a game on League Pass.

Sling TV

Sling TV is a new cord-cutting service from Dish Network that is another excellent way to watch NBA games online. For $20 a month, you get a number of channels showing NBA games, including TNT, Fox Sports, and ESPN. NBA TV is also on Sling TV, although this does require an additional Sports Extra subscription.

Unfortunately, Sling TV is only available in the US, meaning international viewers will need a VPN to unblock the service. You can read more about unblocking Sling TV here.

“Local” TV

One of the great benefits of a VPN is the ability to tunnel into a country where a broadcasting channel offers a free stream. Examples of this can be found with the BBC in the UK, Digi Sport in Romania, or SRF TV in Switzerland. While this method may not always work (depending on schedules and broadcasting rights), it is also the best way to watch NBA online for free!

Watch NBA Online Free

Once you find a channel that is showing NBA games online, simply connect to a VPN server in that country and go the webpage of the relevant streaming service.

Another way to watch NBA online for free is to check out the official NBA streaming subreddit. This community is known for consistently providing links to stream nearly every game. The big downside here is obviously the questionable legality, and how willingly your internet service provider enforces copyright violations.

Watch NBA Online

If you do use this method to watch NBA games, proceed at your own risk! I strongly recommend using a VPN when streaming any copyrighted content through third-party streamers. By securing your internet connection with a VPN, you are better protected against any malware, or an ISP tracking your browsing history.
