Why you should consider using a VPN in Romania

A VPN is an excellent way to improve your privacy and security online.  VPNs encrypt your internet traffic and shroud it in a secure tunnel, which prevents the prying eyes of websites, internet service providers (ISPs), hackers, and even governments from seeing what you're doing online.

There's quite a lot that you can do with a VPN:

When you're deciding on a VPN provider, it's important to pick one that offers the security and features that best suit your needs – be it safer online browsing, or total privacy and anonymity, a VPN is one of the best tools for the job.

Fortunately, VPNs are legal in Romania. The privacy-friendly nation exists outside the jurisdiction of the Fourteen Eyes spying alliance, which is great for privacy purists.

What makes a VPN good for use in Romania?

Because VPNs are legal in Romania, users should look for features that suit their own needs best. We recommend choosing a provider that offers:

With these features, you'll be set to use the internet in total privacy, and with peace of mind as well.

Romanian VPN and online privacy

Romania is fast becoming a popular location for VPN providers - and for good reasons. The government respects the right to privacy for its citizens when they're online, there is no censorship of any kind, and the only blocks in place are due to geo-restrictions rather than from the country itself.

Online gambling remains the only point of contention, and each gambling service in the country must register. However, you'll still be able to check out a website that hasn't been registered in the country.

The online privacy afforded to the citizens of Romania makes it a fantastic place for anybody to connect to. If you are looking for a true censor-free and privacy-centric way to use the internet, Romanian VPN servers are the way forward.

Romanian VPN and streaming services

The most sought after streaming services now block VPNs from accessing their regional libraries and the US Netflix library is by far the most comprehensive. In order to make the most of your Netflix subscription, you'll want to use a Netflix VPN to bypass geo-restrictions.

ExpressVPN and CyberGhost are great examples of this. These providers will allow Romania users to access any geo-restricted services that they can think of - and then probably several more!

Romanian VPN and connection speed

Nowadays, most of us want to watch unblocked video streams in HD – or even 4K if you have the means to do so.

For this reason, it's important to have a fast connection to your VPN server or you could be stuck with endlessly buffering videos.

ExpressVPN is well known for its insanely fast VPN servers, so it's a top pick for those folks who want to use a VPN whilst watching videos or streaming shows.

Choosing a Romanian VPN for privacy

Romania may be a safe haven for online privacy rights, but the rest of the world is not. It's important to pick a VPN provider with a no-logs policy and a variety of different security features that'll keep you secure when browsing the internet.

ExpressVPN is a great option for privacy. It offers the most sophisticated VPN protocols such as IKEv2, keeps no logs, and supports Onion over VPN for better protection. ExpressVPN also allows you to pay in Bitcoin if you're really serious about staying anonymous.

For more information about logs, take a look at our no-logs VPN guide.

Will a free VPN keep me secure in Romania?

There are plenty of free VPN services available to use, but if you're going to use a free service, it's worth noting that there are plenty of free services out there that promise unlimited speeds and data, but really just exist to steal your information and sell it on. Free services that promise the world usually come with:

  • Malware
  • weak/no real encryption
  • Few geolocations and IP addresses to choose from
  • congested and slow servers
  • Invasive privacy policies (that monitor your usage and sell on your information)

Even the best free VPNs come with speed and data restrictions (and are often just stripped-back versions of premium services). A good VPN doesn't have to be expensive, and cheap services are available, but it's best to do some digging on the provider to make sure they have servers in Romania.

If you want to get the most out of a VPN service, but don't have the cash to spare, it's best to utilize the money-back guarantees of the providers listed above – you'll get a top-quality service without sacrificing your privacy in the process.

Setting up and using a VPN in Romania

Setting up and using a VPN in Romania is really simple:

  1. Subscribe to the VPN provider that suits your needs best.
  2. Download and install the VPN app for your device.
  3. Connect to a server.
  4. Go!

You're now connected to a VPN server and your internet traffic is encrypted.

Best Romania VPNs conclusion

Romania is great for privacy. However, citizens there still want a VPN to unblock geo-restricted content from around the world. A VPN does this and more – keeping you safe when using public WiFi hotspots, cloaking your IP address, and opening up the web by bypassing censorship. Using a Romanian VPN, such as ExpressVPN, will allow you to view the internet without censorship. It will also stop ISPs from knowing what you do online.

Email address. We ask for your email address and password as part of your registration - why does NordVPN require this (under privacy policy)

It needs you to come up with a password when you subscribe so that you can log in to the software and use it. It needs an email address to send you the billing confirmation email and to confirm that you have an account with them. You can use a burner email with a fake name if you want to.

And what 's about a free vpn ? I found 2. A kill switch is a nice feature _ unfortunately rarely included. Based in the usa , a vpn provider can be a better choice according on the quality of service:support. One detail has been forgotten in the article/review above : the reputation_wot.

Hi v13, - There, to be honest, very few circumstances where I would recommend a free VPN over a paid service. Free services are either very limited, or are untrustworthy. - It is increasingly common to see kill switches included in providers' custom clients - Possibly, but this removes one of the main advantages of using a Romanian VPN server - no NSA spying - the reputation_wot?
