A VPN for the UAE will allow you to bypass restrictions imposed by landlords, workplaces, schools, ISPs, and the government. Furthermore, because a VPN allows subscribers to pretend to be abroad, geo-restrictions can also be overcome. The outcome is unrivaled access to the internet.

In addition, a top of the range UAE VPN implements strong encryption. By scrambling their web traffic, VPNs give subscribers the privacy to do anything they want online without anybody knowing what they are doing. That leaves residents in the UAE free to access Skype, WhatsApp, Israeli domains, gambling websites, pornography, and other sites that could easily get them in trouble with the law.

Using a VPN in the UAE to do almost anything you might want to do with one is now illegal. In the UAE, it is possible for VPNs to get you into a lot of trouble. This includes hefty fines and/or prison time. Despite this, many people in the country successfully use VPNs without facing prosecution.

If you are considering subscribing to a VPN in the UAE, we recommend that you read our news article on the subject to make an informed decision about the risks involved. Whether or not you decide to use a VPN in the UAE is your choice – and you do so at your own risk.

Obfsproxy is one of the best stealth modes that money can buy, and NordVPN has a kill switch, DNS leak protection, VPN into Tor, shared Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and even double hop. This is all excellent. The zero logs policy is also outstanding. Sadly, all that extra privacy does make the VPN slightly slower, but it is still perfect for streaming in HD. The great thing about this VPN for the UAE is that it provides very fast connection speeds.

Furthermore, the VPN in fully featured, with a kill switch and DNS leak protection. If you want to be extremely secure and want to use stealth mode, then choose a VPN higher in the list. What Is a VPN for UAE?

A Virtual Private Network is a service that allows people to pretend securely that they are in another country. By connecting to a VPN server outside of their home nation, VPN users can use the internet as if they were abroad. UAE VPN users can access websites that have been blacklisted by the government. In addition, a VPN for UAE can overcome all geo-restrictions.

Is a UAE VPN Safe to Use?

Yes. However, it is absolutely vital that extreme care is taken when selecting a VPN. Some VPNs have poor privacy policies and use outdated or badly implemented encryption. In addition, some VPNs don’t have the features necessary to guarantee that subscribers in the UAE are safe.

In this guide, we carefully explain exactly why our five best VPNs for the UAE have been selected. These VPNs have what you need to remain safe and secure while using a VPN, and have been chosen very carefully by our expert team for use in the UAE.

Can I get a UAE VPN Free?

Yes, it is possible to get a trusted UAE VPN for free. However, it is worth noting that free services are there to entice people into buying the premium service. For this reason, secure VPNs that offer a free version place restrictions on the service (bandwidth and download limits). This makes the VPN rather limited and will not make it very good if you intend to use it heavily (for streaming in HD or other data intensive tasks). However, a free VPN may be a good way to unblock news websites – if that is all you need it for.

What Websites are Blocked in UAE?

In the UAE many websites are blocked because of moral incompatibility with religious beliefs. For this reason, the vast majority of pornography sites are banned. In addition, many dating and matrimonial sites are blocked in the country. Websites to do with foreign religions such as are also blocked. Finally, the UAE blocks VOIP websites. A full list of websites that are blocked is currently unknown.

However, it is also worth noting that VPN websites are blocked in UAE, so it may be necessary to use a proxy or a VPN in order to access some VPNs themselves and get a subscription. If you encounter a VPN on this list that you can’t access the website for – please sens us a message and we can help to walk you through the process of unblocking the VPN’s website in order to subscribe. That way you can get a good VPN and overcome all the UAE website blocks.

Why These Five VPNs?

VPN use is illegal in the UAE for doing most things, so it is really important that you don’t use just any VPN. Many VPNs have insecure encryption and dangerous privacy policies. Others share and sell data to third parties. This is a huge security risk, and we recommend avoiding these VPNs even in European countries (where there isn’t the risk of prison).

A VPN should protect your data and provide security and privacy, NOT sell your data to third parties.

VPN Detection and Stealth Mode

OpenVPN encryption is by far the most secure VPN encryption available on the market. For this reason, it is the encryption protocol that we always recommend here at

However, it is possible to use deep packet inspection to analyze web traffic and discover that OpenVPN is being used. Usually, that would be fine, because in most other locations around the world using a VPN isn’t illegal. In UAE this isn’t the case and you could be prosecuted for unblocking content (though in reality this is very rare). Still, it is highly recommended that residents of the UAE use a VPN concealer (usually known as stealth mode).

The most basic form of stealth mode is Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) over port 443. Port 443 is the one used for regular HTTPS traffic. By using this port, OpenVPN encryption is disguised as regular HTTPS traffic, making it less likely to be noticed. Better stealth modes use stunnel or obfsproxy. Our top three VPNs for the UAE all have excellent stealth modes, so if you want to be as secure as possible, opt for one of the top three.

Privacy and Security Features

In order to be absolutely sure that you don’t accidentally leak any of your web traffic to your ISP, it is essential that your VPN has strong encryption and a strong privacy policy.

It is also important to use a kill switch. A kill switch stops any data from accidentally being leaked to the ISP should the VPN connection be lost.

A VPN kill switch does this by ensuring that VPN users never leak any traffic outside of the VPN tunnel. In the UAE this is even more important than elsewhere, which is why all the VPN providers in this article have both a kill switch and DNS leak protection. Please remember to switch both of those features on.

VPN Privacy Checklist

Due to the fact that using a VPN in the UAE could land you in prison, we have included this checklist to ensure that you use your VPN in the most secure way possible.

  1. Select a trusted and reliable VPN with strong encryption and all the security features you require. It mustn’t fall under UAE jurisdiction under any circumstances.
  2. Subscribe to your VPN using a public WiFi hotspot. Doing this will stop your home’s IP address from being flagged up for having visited a VPN in the first place.
  3. Turn on the kill switch, DNS leak protection, and stealth mode features in your VPN’s settings.
  4. Connect to a VPN server (outside of the UAE or any of its allies).

Following these steps will make your VPN experience as secure and private as possible.

Use a VPN for the UAE on Public WiFi

When we connect to a public WiFi hotspot, we expose ourselves to hackers. As soon as we connect to a WiFi hotspot, anybody else who is also on the WiFi can access our traffic. For this reason, here at we recommend that people use a VPN on public WiFi to stop hackers from stealing their credentials, passwords, and credit card details.

This is also true in the UAE. Despite the fact that VPN use is technically illegal, using one can help you avoid falling victim to a hacker.

For people who are particularly paranoid or worried about using a VPN in the UAE, one possibility is to restrict your VPN use to when you are using public WiFi. That way you won’t run any risk of exposing your home IP address as a VPN user.

Connection Speeds

Another important consideration for people who want to use a VPN in the UAE is connection speeds. When you connect to a VPN server to unblock websites, it is commonplace for your internet speeds to slow down. This is because traffic must travel further to be processed by the VPN server before going to the website. All of the VPNs in this article have been selected because, in addition to privacy and security, they provide the very best speeds.

For people who want to watch BBC iPlayer in HD, the US Netflix catalog, or perhaps geo-restricted sports competitions, the UAE VPNs that we have recommended are ideal.

VPN for UAE: Conclusion

Although VPN use in the UAE is technically against the law, the legislation is very rarely enforced. Despite this, there is no doubt that it is essential to use a VPN that doesn’t fall under UAE jurisdiction. Furthermore, the VPN should be a trusted and reliable provider that is well known for protecting its subscribers.

All of the VPNs in this article are secure enough to keep your data private, because they all have the necessary features to guarantee your protection. A kill switch and DNS leak protection are essential. In addition, stealth mode is recommended. Finally, all of the world class VPNs in this article provide the very best servers and connection speeds available on the market.   1. Hi Ray;

I am not a very techy person, yet a great delineation on the subject which I am able to grasp. Highly applaudable.

I need one subscription, however, still I am very shaky to go for it. How can I be 100% sure that I may not fall in any trouble.

    1. Hi Jawaid,

Using a VPN in the UAE is only illegal if the VPN is used to hide other illegal activity – but in the UAE that can include a quite a lot. There is no 100% guarantee that you won’t get into trouble, although as we understand it, the risks are low – especially is what you are doing online is not very illegal.

  2. Hi Tommy,

You should be able to connect just fine to a VPN service over a mobile connection. It may be that the UAE mobile provider is blocking such connections. In this case please consult my How to Bypass VPN Blocks guide.

  3. I am using golden frog but i can’t even create an account with it and I don’t know why. I will appreciate if I could be clearified on this. Cheers .

    1. Your ISP is likely blocking the site. Use a free VPN or a free trial VPN in order to access the site and get a subscription. This should work for getting VyprVPN if that is the one you specifically desire.

  4. If the VPN can be installed on your phone then it should work fine. I would recommend making use of the VPN’s money back guarantees to test them out for yourself.
