There can be all kinds of reasons you want a VPN in Asia, from accessing restricted services within Asia, to accessing ones outside of it if you are in Asia. Stuff like Netflix, BBC iPlayer can all be accessed using a VPN. Alternatively, you can use VPNs to hide what your are browing, which in countries like China is a big advantage (in fact it helps you access things like YouTube or Facebook).

So, we’ve decided to write an article about the top VPNs that work in Asia, to make sure you can access all these services. While there are over 100 VPN services out there, it’s a good idea to compare them in details, since the level of service does vary a lot. From the type of protocol used (PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN), to pricing and bandwidth limitations, there’s a lot of stuff to consider.

Take a look at our summary below, after which we’ll review the services in a bit more detail too:

Winner

PureVPN

PureVPN

  • PROS
  • No speed restrictions
  • Over 300 servers
  • Excellent tutorials
  • CONS
  • No privacy policy

Not only do PureVPN have IP addresses in almost every country, they are is based in Hong Kong, and they’ve built their VPN business well over the last few years. Their software is excellent, it’s really easy to set up and use, and the speeds of their servers when we tested them were top notch. Their pricing is also very good, especially now that BestVPN has an exclusive deal with them for a reduced price! Prices start from $4.15 per month (if you pay upfront for 12 months), which is on the lower end of the VPN price spectrum.

They do have excellent customer service, which is 24/7. However, they don’t have a privacy policy which is very strange. Still, Hong Kong does not have very strong data retention laws, so it is unlikely that they are logging anything.

They also have a 3 day moneyback guarantee, so there is no risk in signing up and testing them.

2nd place

StrongVPN

StrongVPN

  • PROS
  • No speed restrictions
  • Over 300 servers
  • Excellent tutorials
  • CONS
  • No privacy policy

StrongVPN are based in the USA, and has somewhere near 30,000 IP addresses, and that means plenty of IP addresses in Asia. Their software was very good when we tested it, and we had no speed problems. They also say that there is no logging on their servers, although this is becoming more difficult with stricter rules in the USA.

What we found strange is that they have no privacy policy, but since they are in the US they aren’t bound by law to report everything, but there is a chance they do log what you do.

They have a 7 day moneyback guarantee, and their prices start from $7 a month if paid monthly, which is lower than PureVPN for monthly payments.

3rd place

ibVPN

StrongVPN

  • PROS
  • No logs
  • Very Cheap
  • Dedicated torrent service
  • CONS
  • Live support sometimes offline
  • Design

If you want the Walmart of VPNs, try ibVPN. With prices starting under $4 per month, they definitely have the lowest prices of almost all good quality VPNs. I say good quality because their speeds were excellent when we tried them, so they are definitely a good VPN service.

They don’t have software so you will have to set up the internet connections yourself, but there are plenty of guides showing you how to do this.

PIA

  • PROS
  • No logs
  • Shared IPs
  • Accept Bitcoin
  • Encourages anonymous email
  • VPN kill switch
  • DNS leak protection
  • US based so no data retention laws
  • CONS
  • No free trial or money back guarantee period

Private Internet Access are the most committed company of all to privacy. They have strict no logging policies, they encourage signups with anonymous email addresses so you can’t be tracked, and they accept payment in bitcoins. They also have excellent software which has an internet kill switch and DNS leak protection.

Prices are only slightly higher than ibVPN, if paid monthly they are $6.95 per month. There is no moneyback guarantee though.

5th place

HideMyAss

HideMyAss Logo

  • PROS
  • Great software
  • Fast servers
  • Plenty of locations
  • CONS
  • Not the best price, but still a good price

HideMyAss probably has one of the best software about, we were really impressed with that, and the fact that there are over 45,000 IP addresses means that they have the most in that regard too. The reason they are number 5 is that they are based in the UK to they do probably have to log everything going via their servers.

HideMyAss costs only $6.51 per month if you pay upfront.

They also have a 30 day moneyback guarantee, so there is no real risk for you, you can get your money back at any time.

Conclusion

For good quality and good price, choose PureVPN or StrongVPN. If you are short on cash, ibVPN and Private Internet Access can save you money, but at a cost. Although PIA is excellent for privacy. And finally we have HideMAss who have an excellent service but prices are a bit high. In the end, you probably get what you pay for.
