KickassTorrents, often more affectionately known by its domain name KAT.ph, went offline for a short time last night (14 June) following what appears to a domain name seizure by dotPH, the official domain registry of the Philippines. As one KAT staff member put it, “the kat.ph has been taken down cause philippines suddenly seized our domain”.
The real reasons for this seizure are still unknown, although dotPH have cited violation of its Terms of Agreement. If the likes of the MPAA are not behind the move, we would be very surprised.
Fortunately, Kickass Torrents was soon up and running again, but should now accessed at the https://kickass.to address, which the KAT staff have stated is safe.
KiackassTorrents have been having a bit of a bad year of it, and were prompted to move from their previous .com domain name to the Philippines .ph one in April, as precautionary measure in the face of multiple domain seizures by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of other file-sharing related websites.
