Timed to coincide with US Independence Day (‘The Fourth of July) celebrations tomorrow, Restore the Forth aims to organise peaceful, non-partisan grassroots rallies across the United States in a nationwide protest in defence of the Fourth Amendment, and against the unconstitutional spying methods used by the NSA in their PRISM program.
‘The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.’
The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution
Completely unrelated to the mass Reclaim the Streets Demonstrations of the last couple of years, these demonstrations nevertheless have shown that physically turning up to protest can be a highly effective means of expressing and mobilising public anger.
Enjoying the full support of the Electronic Frontiers Foundation, the Stop Watching Us coalition, Free Press, Mozilla, the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and ColorOfChange.org, planning of the events is being performed by an active reddit community.
We encourage all US citizens who care about the NSA’s assault on human rights (which also includes the rights of hundreds of millions of non-US citizens who have no Fourth Amendment protection whatsoever) to stand up for their constitution, defend democracy, and join the protests.
