It’s that time of year again. The US PGA Championship is all set to tee off at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is the last of the four majors on the professional golf calendar and is run by the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA).

When Is the PGA Championship?

The 2017 US PGA Championship Golf tournament will take place from 7 – 13 Aug 2017. It has a prize fund of $10.5 million and will involve 156 professional players. The par 71 course is contained within the members-only Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina. It’s a beautiful course in the South-East of the United States, founded by James J Harris on 13 April 1959. It is 7,600 yards in length.

The entire tournament will be showing in the US on the cable TV channel TNT. In addition, the UK’s BBC will be showing live coverage on iPlayer. Due to the fact that BBC iPlayer will be showing the PGA Championship for free, this is the best option for people to watch the tournament from outside of the US and UK. However, because iPlayer is geo-restricted for use in the UK only, a Virtual Private Network (VPN) is necessary for anybody who wants to watch PGA Golf live.

For Australian fans take a look at our  best VPN for Australia guide.

The co-favorites to win this year’s PGA Championship are Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy.

How to Watch the US PGA Championship Online

If you want to watch the entirety of this year’s US PGA Championship online for free, you’ll need a VPN.

Living outside of the US and UK means that you’ll be lucky to get a good highlights reel at the end of each day. Thankfully, despite the fact that TNT streams are geographically-restricted to the US, and BBC iPlayer streams are restricted to the UK, you can use a VPN for golf to pretend to be in either of those countries. The result is that anybody, anywhere, can access the online streams that will be showing all the play at Quail Hollow Club.

Free Live Stream on TNT (US)

The US TV broadcaster TNT has the rights to broadcast this year’s US PGA Championship. For people living outside the US, this is going to mean two things:

  1. Firstly, you’ll need to connect to a US VPN server in order to bypass the usual geographic restriction.
  2. Secondly, you’ll need to have a US cable subscription (as even US residents need cable to watch TNT).

The online US streaming service SlingTV provides a seven-day free trial. As such, all you need to do is subscribe to a VPN for US Golf (we recommend ExpressVPN – it’s by far the best option). After that, connect to a US server, navigate over to SlingTV, and sign up for its seven-day free trial. That way you can watch the entire PGA Championship without paying a dime!

Connecting to a VPN server located in the US will make the notice above magically vanish! You’ll be able to subscribe to the seven-day free trial and watch golf on TNT.

Watch PGA Championship on BBC iPlayer

If you prefer to watch golf on the UK’s BBC iPlayer, this is also an option. The BBC will be showing the entire tournament for free. To watch the PGA on iPlayer, simply connect to a UK server using ExpressVPN, and navigate to the BBC website. You’ll need to sign up for an account, so please have a valid UK address (Google an address in London, for instance), an email address, and a fake name ready!

Already Got a Cable TV or Sky TV Subscription?

For American residents who already have a US cable subscription, or UK residents who have a Sky subscription, but are out of the country for some reason, a VPN is the perfect solution. Simply subscribe to your preferred VPN for golf, connect to a server in the country where you normally reside and log in to your media player as if you were at home.

How to Unblock PGA Championship Golf Online: Step-by-step Guide

  1. Select one of the streaming options above.
  2. Choose from our list of the best VPNs for streaming sports, or go directly to ExpressVPN, the top VPN for golf.
  3. Download and install the VPN software from your VPN’s website (remember to get the right version for your device).
  4. Connect to a VPN server in the UK or US.
  5. Head over to your chosen streaming option. Sign up and complete the registration process (don’t forget to use your seven-day free trial on Sling TV).
  6. Start streaming the 2017 PGA Golf Championship.

Unblock US PGA Championship: Conclusion

For many golf fans, watching the US PGA Championship is a must. Sadly, due to the fact that it doesn’t get shown on local TV channels around the world, a VPN is necessary.

What Is a VPN for Golf?

A Virtual Private Network is an online service that allows you to pretend to be in a different country. By connecting to a VPN server in the US, you can pretend to be in the US. However, keep in mind that you’re not really supposed to unblock geographically-restricted feeds.

That’s why we strongly recommend a reliable VPN that provides strongly implemented OpenVPN encryption. With strong VPN encryption enabled, neither your Internet Service Provider, the government, nor anybody else will be able to see what you’re doing online. It will give you the privacy and security to do as you please online without fear of being caught.

All of the VPNs for sports recommended in our guide provide fast, reliable and trusted VPN services that are perfect to watch the US PGA Championship. As such, go ahead and choose one with confidence. We hope you enjoy the golf!
