KickassTorrents removed from Google search results

kickassAs we noted a couple of weeks ago, KickassTorrents (KAT), the internet’s second most popular BitTorrent indexing site (after The Pirate Bay), has been having a bit of a hard time of it this year, moving from their old .com domain name to Philippines based .ph, which was then seized. Although they have regained control of this domain name (for now), KAT encourages users to access their website using the new https://kickass.to/ address.

However, in what has been described as a ‘precision’ takedown, the MPAA have successfully removed the new domain name from Google’s search result.

This is the result of a new strategy by the MPAA, in which instead of issuing DMCA takedown notices for each individual links to copyrighted content (Google has received over 16 million of these in the last month), it is issuing only few, often aimed at home pages of websites it views as facilitating copyright abuse.
