The 2017/2018 Champions League season is officially underway. PSG – Bayern Munich, Dortmund – Real Madrid, and Athletico Madrid – Chelsea are just some of the exciting games in the upcoming Champions League group stage round. Let me show you how you can watch this week’s action – and all Champions League games – online!
Watch Champions League Online: When Is It?
This round of Champions League games begins on Tuesday 26 September and continues on Wednesday 27 September. This week’s games start at 18:45 UTC, which translates to a 14:45 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) on the East Coast of the US. The one exception will be FK Qarabag – AS Roma, starting at 16:00 UTC on Wednesday. Check out this week’s full UEFA Champion’s League (UCL) schedule below.
While the game of the week definitely seems to be the Group C clash between Athletico Madrid and Chelsea, there are a number of additional headlines worth tracking. Neymar looks to continue a scorching start to his Paris Saint-Germain career against Carlo Ancelotti’s Bayern side, while Real Madrid will look to sweep a young Dortmund side on their way to a third consecutive title.
One thing is for sure – you don’t want to miss any of the UCL action!
How Can I Watch Champions League Online?
There are a couple of ways you can watch Champions League games online. All of the streaming services I mention here involve some sort of subscription, so make sure you check your local TV listings to see if the games are being shown for free.
Want to watch UCL games online?
It's easy with ExpressVPN!
With Fox owning rights to Champions League games, FoxSoccerMatchPass is the best way to watch Champions League football online. The $19.99 a month price tag might be a bit high, but keep in mind that this will cover all 145 Champions League games and all Bundesliga and Europa League games.
FoxSoccerMatchPass also comes with a seven-day free trial, allowing you to stream a number of games for free! You will need to sign up using credit card details, but simply cancel your subscription before the seven days are up to avoid getting charged the $19.99.
The one catch with FoxSoccerMatchPass is that it is restricted to US residents. Thankfully, those currently outside of the US can use a VPN to watch FoxSoccerMatchPass.
Sling TV is a popular cord-cutting service that gives access to Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. With the Fox Sports channels broadcasting all Champions League games, Sling TV is another excellent way to catch all the action online.
There is a seven-day free trial available that will let you stream the games for free. Sling TV also enjoys awesome compatibility with a number of devices, including Roku, Xbox One, Chromecast, Android, and iOS.
Unfortunately, Sling TV suffers from the same geo-restrictions as FoxSoccerMatchPass, with the service only available to US residents. Keep reading to see how you can unblock Sling TV!
BT Sport – UK Viewers
BT Sport has the broadcasting rights for the Champions League in the UK. It will be showing Spartak Moscow – Liverpool live on Tuesday 26 September. Unfortunately, watching BT Sport online requires a UK cable subscription, which is obviously an issue for non-UK residents.
If you have a BT Sport subscription and are traveling overseas, you can tune in to watch the games by following the step-by-step instructions towards the top of this article.
Can I Watch Champions League Games for Free?
If you don’t fancy paying anything to watch your favorite UCL games, you can look around for some alternative (and mostly illegal) streams.
While streaming UCL games for free sounds nice on paper, getting caught using these illegal streams isn’t. Using a VPN while you stream gives you increased protection against your Internet Service Provider tracking your activity.
Check out the official /r/soccerstreams subreddit for more information on these methods.
Use a VPN to Watch Champions League Football
Unblocking any of the streaming services below requires an active Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to the US or UK (depending on your streaming method). Read my step-by-step instructions on how to use a VPN to unblock these streaming services!
- Select one of the Champions League streaming services I’ve listed above.
- Choose from our best VPNs for sports or sign straight up to my personal favorite, ExpressVPN.
- Download and install the VPN software on your internet-connected device.
- Connect to a VPN server in a country where streaming is allowed (the US for FoxSoccerMatchPass and Sling TV, the UK for BT Sport).
- Once connected, go to the streaming service you’ve selected and sign up. Once that’s done, you’re all set to start streaming!
Note: stay connected to the VPN while streaming to avoid any playback issues. You can disconnect from the VPN when you are done streaming!
