Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 7 The Dragon and the Wolf: Recap (SPOLIERS)

After a few slow episodes, ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’ gave fans exactly what they wanted, even if that did leave the show final show of season 7 feeling somewhat predictable.

The opening scenes of the season 7 finale were as tense as Game of Thrones gets. Daenerys’ massive army amassed outside the walls of King’s Landing, and the vast Iron Fleet moored on the opposite side of the city reinforced the impasse at which the two sides found themselves going into the meeting in the Dragon Pit.

The uneasiness of the opening scenes was relieved with sporadic meetings of old friends, and former enemies, the political spiders web of alliances now split neatly into two camps.

This doesn’t last long, however, as Cersei and her entourage, looking like a unit of Arthurian Stormtroopers, entered the Dragon Pit and wait with baited breath for the arrival of Daenerys and her two remaining dragons.

The frostiness of the ensuing meeting is aided by the delightfully antagonistic Euron Greyjoy. Jon, Tyrion and Daenerys’ pleas for a truce are met with characteristic opposition by Cersei. Until, that is, she comes within licking distance of on the Night King’s foot soldiers.

While the fearful reaction of Cersei and her allies seems to bode well for Jon and Daenerys’ objectives, it isn’t long before Euron turns tail, and Jon’s refusal to lay down arms against the Lannisters leads to a breakdown in negotiations.

With hope all but lost, it falls to Tyrion to plead humanity’s case to Cersei in private. After being spared a bludgeoning at the hands of the mountain in a rare show of mercy by Cersei, Tyrion learns of her pregnancy. Seemingly softened, Cersei returns to the Dragon Pit and pledges to fight alongside Daenerys against the night king, asking nothing in return. Unbelievably, the wide eyed visiting party take her at her word and head, apparently via teleportation, back to Dragonstone.

Further North in Winterfell, we’re treated both to the execution, and the delayed sisterly reconciliation, we have been waiting for. On the strength of the omnipotent testimony of Brandon, Little Finger is tried, found guilty, and summarily executed by Arya, with a flourish of the sword 7 seasons in the making.

Meanwhile, Theon finally get a well needed win. Forgiven, in part, by Jon for his betrayal of the Stark family, Theon sets off to recruit those Iron Born remaining on Dragonstone for a mission to save Yara.

Back in King’s Landing Cersei’s conceit is revealed. Euron has actually sailed off to ferry back an army of mercenaries to fight for Cersei, who has absolutely no intention of sending her armies North to fight with Daenerys. This seems to be the final straw for Jaime who is seen riding away from King’s Landing just as the first snows reach the capital.

If we were in any doubt that winter was finally here, enter the Night King on his frosty zombie dragon. If the final episode so far had felt a little short on action, the final moments dropped a big blue fiery bomb on us. As the season ends, an army of the dead hundreds of thousands strong spills through a hole in the wall smashed open by the Night King on a resurrected Viserion.

Blissfully unaware of the turmoil at the wall are John and Daenerys, as they finally get it on after a full series of will they, won’t they. Another fact that they may be glad has escaped them is the confirmation of a long held fan theory regarding mutual genetics, and Jon’s claim as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

What to Expect from Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 7: Finale?

The trailer for Sunday’s season 7 finale of GoT, the longest episode to date at 80 minutes, teases another huge battle as well of one of the biggest character meetings we have seen.

This will be the first time many of the lead characters have appeared on screen together, and it is left fairly ambiguous as to how the meeting will conclude. Although we see Jon Snow and his entourage entering the long-awaited negotiations, neither Daenerys nor the captured White Walker, the two main reasons for the meeting, are present.

We see the Unsullied, reinforced by the Dothraki, as they face off with Jaime and the Lannister army at Kings Landing. However, it’s unclear from the trailer whether this battle hints at a breakdown in the negotiations, or is just a show of force by each side.

One huge question fans will want answering is the fate of Daenerys’ dragon Viserion, but there is no hint of this, or the Night Kings progress, in the teaser. Looks like we will have to wait for the season finale to air on Sunday 27th August to find out.

  1. Well!!! I used Nord VPN to watch episode 1 through Now TV BUT!!! by episode 2, Now TV had smartened up and knew I was using a VPN. Everyone said I could trust ExpressVPN, but NO!!!!!!!! Now TV still won’t let me watch – and now I’m actually paying!! AGGGHHHHH Oh and btw when I contacted NordVPN they were useless – and slow with it. Lets see if Express VPN can offer any help at all 🙁 anyone? please ….?

    1. Hey Caroline! Sorry to hear that. Streaming services are always playing a cat and mouse game by banning certain VPN servers, did you try connecting to different servers on NordVPN? If it still doesn’t work I would definitely contact NordVPN (or ExpressVPN) support team and they will help you out!

    1. Hi OIH,

This article is aimed those who want to watch content at least somewhat legally. Those with less scruples should also note that the latest episodes of GoT are also available on The Pirate Bay.

    1. @stacy anderson, the torrent’s already out. in fact, there was a news on ivacy blog just a few hours after the show aired. it’s prolly on kodi too now. though thanks to ed sheeran, the fans are now bashing sheeran instead of discussing the episode 😀
