Why Watch The Walking Dead Season Eight First?

Since it was first released in 2010, The Walking Dead has risen to be the most popular zombie-related TV show of all time. In fact, for many zombie lovers, nothing compares to The Walking Dead. The show is a horror drama based on a comic book of the same name. Season eight, which will kick off with the 100th episode, is already tipped to be bigger and better than any of the previous seasons.

The show is still staying faithful to the graphic novels. That’s great news because, in Robert Kirkman’s comics, the main character Negan is still alive and kicking. That means there’s enough storyline left yet for even more than the 16 scheduled episodes of season eight.

Watch Talking Dead Live

If you’re an international viewer of The Walking Dead (the most watched show on US cable TV), you may not be aware that there is a companion show called Talking Dead. Talking Dead is a talk show that airs just after The Walking Dead. It’s the second most-watched show on US cable TV. As such, it’s pretty obvious that any fan of The Walking Dead will want to watch Talking Dead just after it. The good news is that with a VPN, you can.

The Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale: ‘How It’s Gotta Be’ Recap

And here we are at the mid-season finale for season 8. After the harrowing events from season 7, the showrunners seem to have reigned in any major character deaths in the most recent episodes. Some fans feel could be to blame for some of the lowest viewing figures in the show’s history. Well, be careful what you wish for. If any of our favourites are for the chop, the mid-season finale would be as good a time as any to do it.

Social Graces

With all the fighting and fractured alliances that fans have endured this season, it’s nice to see Aron and Enid taking the initiative by trying to build some bridges. As the rest of the world is crumbling around them, the two take a road trip to Oceanside to see if they can make amends for having stolen their guns and leaving the poor mites defenceless. Stopping on the way to pick up a whole wagon of alcohol by way of a peace offering, the two arrive near Oceanside and stop to camp out in the car overnight, when they see a figure approaching in the shadows. Believing it to be a walker, the two investigate with guns drawn. Aron is ambushed by the figure and Enid opens fire. As the others arrive from the Oceanside, it is revealed that Enid has killed Natania, the Oceanside leaders Grandmother, and the two are imprisoned while the community grieves their loss.

Scorched Earth

Having returned to Alexandria after sabotaging Ricks plan and letting the walkers into the Sanctuary, Michonne and Daryl prepare to justify their actions to Rick. Carl is caught by Michonne sneaking out to through the sewer to help his new friend, Sidiq, when Negan’s voice is heard from outside the walls. He delivers the ultimatum that the people of Alexandria give up themselves and Rick or face being carpet bombed with grenades.

Carl takes charge and formulates plan to allow people to escape, before going to the gate to confront Negan. Telling him he doesn’t want anyone to die, Carl offers his life to Negan in exchange for the rest of Alexandria. Meanwhile, Daryl leads an escape through the back door in a convoy of garbage trucks. Realising he has been played by Carl, Negan gives the order to open fire on Alexandria and his men fire grenades over wall.

As Negan breaks down the front gate, he realises everyone has left but that Carl must still be there. He orders his men to capture Carl and blow up every house except Rick’s. Carl, using smoke grenades for cover, manages to escape through the sewer he used to meet Siddiq.

The escaped convoy sets up a roadblock further down the road, and concealed with smoke grenades the group lie waiting in ambush. Dwight, supposedly leading the pursuit, drives the cars straight into the trap, and as the Saviours are taking fire turns his gun on his comrades. With the fighting over and the saviours running for their lives, Dwight sticks around to explain it was he who helped the group escape Alexandria. With Dwight in tow the group return to Alexandria to hide out in the sewers. Michonne, however, remains above ground to slice up some revenge.

The King’s Redemption

Still wallowing in his pity party, Ezekiel finds a letter from Jerry telling him he ‘had to bounce’ to go and see Rick’s Plan through. With no guard on the door, Ezekiel hears Negan’s men coming to find him and makes a quick dart for it.

Outside the saviours round up the people the Kingdom. They inform them of their plans to take over the town and execute someone if they do not turn over Ezekiel. The King, however, has other plans and sets about on a solo mission to save his people.

Blowing up some oil barrels he distracts the invaders, and drives a school bus into the remaining Saviours, allowing his people to escape. As they flee the Kingdom, Carol arrives and after running back the Kingdom for the King, she witnesses Ezekiel chain the gates behind them and give himself up to the saviours.

The Hilltop Convoy

En route to meet Rick and force the Sanctuary to surrender, Maggie’s convoy hits a road block as they realise that the Saviours have escaped their compound. From the back of a truck some Saviours produce a handcuffed Jerry and a coffin, as Simon swaggers out of the van.

Surrounded and with no moves to make, Maggie asks Simon what has happened to the other communities. He tells her that both the Kingdom and Alexandria are now in the possession of the Saviours. The Hilltop, on the other hand, will be left alone if they choose to cooperate. He also has a personal favour to ask.  He would like Maggie to turn over Gregory after he made such a fool of him in front of Negan.

Simon explains that Eugene helped them escape the Sanctuary, and that the herd of Walkers are being led away by the Saviours and will be sent to the Sanctuary if she doesn’t cooperate. He shoots Neil to make sure Maggie knows he’s serious and Maggie agrees to go home, but asks for the coffin so that she may bury Neil.

Arriving back at the Hilltop, Maggie goes straight for the prisoners and summarily executes the noisiest. Although she orders that everyone returns to tending the crops, she makes it known that she has no intention of bowing to Negan, and that it will be the Hilltop that make the last stand against the Sanctuary. She fills the coffin not with Neil but the dead prisoner, and writes a warning on the lid that she will execute more prisoners if the Saviours do not stand down.

The Great Escape

Having remained at the sanctuary, Eugene is struggling with his conscience. Making up his mind to atone for his actions, he goes to see Gabriel and Dr. Carson. He tells them that he has incapacitated one of the guards, and the two may escape back to the Hilltop to deliver Maggie’s baby.

Arriving home to find Alexandria in flames, Rick heads straight to his house for Carl and Michonne, but finds only the spikey end of Negan’s baseball bat. The two fight it out and as Negan tells Rick of the plans he has to make Carl one of his ‘top guys’. The thought of losing Carl to his sworn enemy spurs riles up old Grimes, and he delivers a howling haymaker to Negan. Ricks spots his revolver on the floor, but before he can get a shot off he is pushed through the window by Negan and escapes.

He runs into Michonne who’s having a whale of a time slicing up one of Negan’s men, and she takes him to the sewer where the remaining forces are hiding. Rick is surprised to see Siddiq sitting at the end of the tunnel but his attention is quickly turned to more pressing matters. Looking rather worse for wear, Carl quietly tells Rick that it was he who brought Siddiq to the sewer and that he had run into trouble on the way. He shows Rick a bite mark on his side, and Rick ad Michonne breakdown in tears.

Walking Dead Season 8: Part 2 Preview

It’s not looking good for Rick and his gang, but we’ll have to wait until February to find out how they get out of their latest mess. Sure enough in the teaser for conclusion of season eight, we see Rick standing over Carl’s grave. Although technically, Carl still has not died from the Walker bite, it is unclear whether he will return in February, at least for the first episode.

Ezekiel, on the other hand, has managed to survive being captured by the saviours, and looks as though he’ll still have a major role to play in the coming episodes.

With Dwight having returned to the fold, Rick and the other survivors look to be heading to the Hilltop to reinforce Maggie for the last stand, but with Negan and his goons prowling the area this may be a more dangerous journey than they can handle.

The Walking Dead Season 8 will return to AMC on February 25th 2018 at 9 pm.
