Snowden – Official Trailer

Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone is yet again treading in deep political waters with his upcoming thriller, Snowden, based on our favorite NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden.

The movie is bound to cause controversy by painting Snowden as a hero and a patriot. It traces his journey from army training to joining the CIA, then follows the events and tortuous decisions that ultimately led him to leak classified information that alerted the American people (Snowden’s primary concern) to the mass surveillance abuses carried out in their name.

In addition to directing the movie, Oliver Stone also wrote the script, which is based on the books The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding, and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena.

Based on the trailer, some members of the BestVPN staff were unconvinced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s portrayal of the whistleblower, while others expressed (quite understandable) exasperation at the casting of Nicolas Cage as former NSA Director Keith B. Alexander.

Personally, however, I am a big fan of Oliver Stone’s work, which includes movie classics such as JFK, Natural Born Killers, Nixon, Midnight Express, Platoon, and Born on the Fourth of July. I therefore have high hopes for this film!

Filming of Snowden has been completed, and it is now at the post production stage. It is scheduled to be released in North America on September 16, 2016
