Editor's Choice

CyberGhost is a highly reliable and low priced VPN that has been performing exceptionally well in 2018. What’s more, its servers are lightning fast and will permit data intensive tasks like streaming in HD. This means CyberGhost is excellent for unblocking content from abroad. Encryption is provided with superbly implemented OpenVPN (our recommended protocol), and the privacy policy is watertight. The VPN can be used on five simultaneous devices, and the firm has live chat support (though it isn’t 24/7). With so much on offer and a 30-day money-back guarantee, CyberGhost VPN is well worth checking out.

4. PureVPN

BestVPN.com Score 8 out of 10
Visit Site

This VPN is fantastic for streaming. Although it does get some criticism (for not providing the kind of privacy levels that some of the VPNs higher in this list have), the reality is that for most people's streaming needs PureVPN it perfect. What's more, this VPN is extremely cheap. If you are looking for a VPN that will unblock content from all over the world, and provide adequate levels of privacy, with no usage logs this VPN is worth considering. However, do be aware that people do sometimes have problems using the money back guarantee: so be sure to read the stipulations carefully. If value for money is important to you - this VPN is worth a try!

5. PrivateInternetAccess

BestVPN.com Score 7.4 out of 10
Visit Site

Private Internet Access is a well-established VPN that is both secure and private. It is a service that is often recommended because of its zero-logs policy. In addition to fantastic privacy levels, it is also incredibly cheap. However, it doesn't unblock as much content as PrivateVPN. Customer care has improved significantly since last year, with wait times for responses arriving in less than half a day. It is based in the US, which might not be for everyone. This cheap VPN is perfect for privacy, but doesn’t unblock everything.

Why do I need a VPN?

A VPN is a service that creates a private, secure network over the internet. All your traffic is routed through a secure tunnel. Because all of your data is encrypted, it is impossible for your ISP, the government and hackers to monitor your activity.

VPNs also allow you to unlock restricted content. A VPN can provide you with an IP address in a region of your choosing, For all intents and purposes, you appear to be in a different country and this allows you to bypass geo-restrictions placed on services like Netflix, iPlayer and Hulu.

Unlimited internet freedom and digital privacy all rolled into one.

If you want to know more about VPNs, take a look at our Beginner's Guide to VPNs for a more in-depth look at how they work.

How much do VPNs cost?

According to our research, the cost of a fully featured VPN service is between $60 and $99 per month if you purchase a yearly subscription (with a benchmark average of $75). Subscribing month by month works out considerably more expensive with an average cost of $10 per month (or around $120 per year).

The VPNs in this guide all work out at $35 or less if you purchase the cheapest possible subscription. A cost that we're sure you'll agree is much cheaper than the average cost of a premium VPN. Remember, we only picked VPNs for this guide that are cheap but also perform well in terms of privacy, security, and vital VPN features.

Is a cheap VPN safe?

Not all cheap VPNs are safe. In fact, a lot of expensive VPNs are not safe! For a VPN to be worthy of your hard-earned cash, it must have superb software, strong encryption, and a secure privacy policy.

All of our recommended low-cost VPNs have been selected because they are excellent VPNs for privacy and security. But if you would like to go a step further and get the very best in privacy, see our most secure VPNs or best VPN for privacy guides for more information about staying secure and private online.

Are budget VPNs fast?

People who specifically desire the fastest VPN speeds of all will want to look at our fastest VPN guide. Having said that, the two providers at the top of this list provide unbelievably fast connection speeds considering the cost. So yes, you can get a fast, cheap VPN.

What's more, all of our recommended cheap VPNs have a massive number of servers - so if one VPN server seems slow, just connect to another!

Trust.zone actually works and speed is good, zero problems. Did a test with user name/password without using any VPN app on my phone. Geoblocked pages worked in February 2018. Also tried pureVPN as they cost only $1.15/month now. But their IP in their 2GB free version is certainly all geoblocked for the nations I tested (UK, SE). Germany was not available for free with pureVPN, but assume it would anyway fail. Trust.Zone seems to work everywhere I tested it.

NordVPN is cheap as CyberGhost but it allows up to six connections and probably it's more accurate to compare it to expressvpn. IMHO NordVPN is #1 at the moment

The listed VPN providers are good but not cheap. Privatoria is cheaper, you should consider adding it to the list
