What is IPTV?

Internet Protocol TV is the official name given to all TV streams that are received via the internet instead of by traditional means (terrestrial, cable, and satellite). Every time you watch a TV stream of a TV channel online you are participating in IPTV. Although the term IPTV can be correctly defined in this way, it is also true that there are a growing number of providers on the market that are specifically marketing themselves as IPTV. This can make IPTV seem like something new and exotic - in reality, it isn’t.

Despite this, there is an emerging IPTV market - with a number of specific IPTV providers growing in popularity. As is always the case with streaming online media (from official sources), not all content is licensed all over the world. Copyright holders and publishers maintain strong controls over what consumers in specific regions can see. They do this using geo restrictions and geo-blocks.

What is a VPN for IPTV?

A Virtual Private Network for IPTV is simply a VPN that can be used to unblock more regional content on your IPTV plan. An IPTV VPN works by allowing subscribers to connect to a VPN server in a remote location. The best VPN for IPTV has a large number of servers around the world. This gives IPTV consumers the ability to pretend to be in any of those countries. The result? The ability to watch any of the TV shows and channels that are usually only available in that country.

Which IPTV VPN Should I Choose?

A simple Google search for “VPN” will reveal that there are in excess of 850 commercial VPN providers on the market. Not all of those VPN services are suitable for use with IPTV providers. This is because to stream TV in HD you need fast connection speeds. With that in mind - it is vital to be careful when selecting a VPN - because it is easy to get duped into getting an inferior service.

The IPTV VPNs in this article have been carefully selected because they are at the top of their game. These VPN services maintain an international presence with a network of lightning-fast servers located all around the globe. They also provide the best privacy policies and security features for giving their users watertight digital privacy.

Use the Summaries to Decide!

All of the VPNs in this guide are absolutely superb, so, at the end of the day, it is up to you which one of them you decide to go for. We have selected a number of services that provide slightly different features and prices. However, they all have a plenty of fast servers and are reliable and trusted. In addition, they all have trial periods with money back guarantees: so you can test these services for yourself

What are my IPTV options?

As explained earlier, all online TV streaming providers are technically IPTV. This means that Amazon Prime, Netflix, Now TV, Sling TV, Sky TV, iPlayer, All 4, Hulu - and ALL other online TV streaming services from around the world - are actually IPTV options.

A VPN can be used to unblock geo-restricted Australian TV channels, Spanish TV channels, German TV channels, Japanese TV channels: and any other nation’s TV channels. A VPN can also be used to unblock more content on all subscription-based Video on Demand (VoD) services. Using a VPN for Netflix will let you access vastly more content on the Netflix US catalog, for instance.

Take a look at our guides below to unblock the above streaming services

Specific IPTV Providers

As previously mentioned there are also a number of subscription services on the market nowadays that are actually branding themselves as IPTV providers. Here is a list of the most renowned providers:

  • IPTV Forest allows subscribers to select their favorite TV shows from over 4000 channels. With speeds of 10 GBPS, it can provide FHD/HD/SD quality images. Prices start at $12.49 per month. It provides IPTV streams worldwide through any AVOV, Infomir (MAG), Kodi or Android devices.
  • RocketStreams is an IPTV service provider that advertises itself as the best IPTV on the web. Internet users can try the service for 24 hours for free. It is compatible with MAG, Dreamlink T1, Avov, Android, WebTV (browser), and XBMC/KODI. Prices start at $8.99 per month.
  • MagicIPTV is another option. It also provides access to thousands of titles. It claims to save its users $1000 per year when compared to cable TV providers.
  • SetTV provides 500+ Channels in HD. It costs $20 per month.

What is an IPTV Set Top Box (STB)?

Nowadays it is possible to purchase a number of set-top boxes that will allow users to stream TV programming and shows from the internet. Some examples of these include Kodi boxes, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Chromecast  (which allows you to use a mobile device as the internet connection for a TV),  Nvidia Shield Pro,  MAG 254 from Infomir, Skystream One, RVEAL, Minix Neo U1, and many more. These devices permit anybody to stream content onto a high-definition TV either via an Ethernet cable or via Wi-Fi.

Watch IPTV Channels On Your Smart TV

If you like to watch IPTV on a Smart TV, then we recommend also looking at our 5 best VPNs for Smart TV. This will give you a more in-depth look at using a VPN with a Smart TV device.

There are a lot of apps that provide Video on Demand for Smart TVs. Some are only available in specific countries, and nearly all can benefit from the unblocking capabilities that come with an IPTV VPN.

IPTV VPNs For Tablets and Smartphones

If you mainly watch TV on an iPad, iPhone (or other iOS device), or on an Android tablet or smartphone: all of the VPNs in this guide are perfect for you.

The VPNs for IPTV that we recommend all have software for Android and iOS. This means you can securely unblock any IPTV content that you wish on your mobile device. This is true both at home and on public WiFi networks - the VPN is installed directly onto your device - letting you unblock more video streams on the go.

Piracy and IPTV

It is true that people do use IPTV to stream pirated content. Black market IPTV has become a massive trade, which on occasion has landed illegal service providers in prison. In Spain, for example, an illegal sports streaming service that was providing access to British Premier League football was shut down: and its owners imprisoned.

Whether it be illegal IPTV on Kodi boxes, or from streaming websites such as 123movies, Gomovies, Putlocker, Alluc - and many others - watching content on unofficial sites is technically illegal piracy. On the whole, people don’t tend to get in trouble for streaming free TV shows and movies. Certainly not as much as people get in trouble for torrenting (downloading) content.

Despite this, a VPN is used by many people who do like to stream TV shows for free. The privacy that a (reliable and trusted) VPN provides allows people (who do use these types of sites) to have peace of mind. A VPN conceals their true location and also encrypts all their web traffic. This means ISPs, governments, and content providers/publisher cannot tell what they are doing and have previously done online.

Here at BestVPN.com, we don’t condone this type of piracy in any way shape or form, but it is a fact that VPNs do get used in this manner.

IPTV VPN Conclusion

Using a VPN for IPTV is the best way to maximize the number of shows, movies, and live TV, that you get to watch online. Nowadays, online TV is the norm with Netflix at the center of a video on demand explosion. No matter whether you use a set-top box, an Android device, a Smart TV, or a computer with VLC or Kodi:  a VPN on Kodi or VLC will let you see more content.

The VPN providers in this article have been specially selected because they provide the best service for streaming IPTV. Fast connections, masses of servers around the globe, and strong privacy make these VPNs unrivaled when it comes to IPTV. All of these services are top-of-the-range, but all differ slightly: so please check the summaries for each VPN before making a decision. And remember, they all have a money back guarantee - so feel free to test a few!

Cyberghost VPN will NOT work with an IPTV service. I just received that from them directly.

Hi Nicolas, Then I think the person you spoke to must have misunderstood what you were talking about. Any VPN service should work fine with IPTV streams (if they are fast enough).
