5 Best VPNs for Netflix - Unblock Netflix in 2019

We’ve tested over 100 VPNs to find the very best Netflix VPN providers. The first page of this guide will take you through each of the providers in detail and explain exactly which libraries can be unblocked. We’ve tested each of them using servers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Japan, and France.

On Page 2 we have the Ultimate Netflix VPN Guide, which will take you through the process of using a VPN to unblock Netflix and answer any questions you might have.

Finally, on Page 3, we have an in-depth Netflix VPN Troubleshooting Guide which helps users resolve any issues they might experience.

Let's not waste any more time - here are our top picks for the very best Netflix VPNs in 2019...

1. NordVPN

Unblocks: Netflix US | Netflix UK | Netflix Canada
Other regions: Australia, Japan, and the Netherlands

Supported Platforms: Windows | macOS | iOS | Android | Android TV

NordVPN does an impeccable job at unblocking both Netflix USA and other regional libraries. They offer capable apps across all major platforms so you can stream from all your devices.

NordVPN employs some clever wizardry behind the scenes to make Netflix streaming as simple as possible. For example, you can connect to your nearest server and still gain access to the full Netflix US library. Why is this useful? Well, the closer the server is to your physical location, the better speeds you get. For example, If you are based in Germany and want to access Netflix USA, you could connect to a server in France and still access the US library.

The only time this won’t work is if you connect to a server in one of NordVPN’s supported regional libraries (Canada, Japan, UK & the Netherlands).

Nord Netflix

Here is a quick breakdown of how to access each library:

Netflix US:
You should connect to any NordVPN servers in countries other than the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, and Japan.

Netflix Canada:
You should connect to any NordVPN server in Canada.

Netflix Japan:
You should connect to any NordVPN server in Japan

Netflix UK:
You should connect to any NordVPN server in the United Kingdom.

Netflix Netherlands:
You should connect to any NordVPN server in the Netherlands.

Nord has apps for all the major platforms including Windows, Mac, iOS and Android and Linux as well as Android TV. It can also be used on any router that supports VPNs.

NordVPN won Best Overall in the BestVPN.com Awards 2019. It’s unblocking capabilities, strong privacy and security policies and excellent customer service make it a great all round product and one we thoroughly recommend trying.

2. CyberGhost

Unblocks: Netflix US | Netflix Germany | Netflix France | Netflix Denmark

Supported Platforms: Windows | macOS | iOS | Android | Fire TV | Android TV

Cyberghost has taken a slightly different approach when it comes to unblocking Netflix. They have focused all their efforts on the Netflix US service. This makes sense given that the vast majority of us simply want to access the largest possible library of content. More recently, they have also added Netflix France, Germany and Denmark into the mix.

You can also access Netflix UK but with one important caveat. While Cyberghost’s UK servers do unblock the UK library, it will only work if the Netflix account was created using a UK IP address.

Cyberghost claims that this is due to Netflix policies in the UK. We’re currently investigating this situation but it’s interesting that other providers are still capable of unblocking Netflix UK regardless of where the account was created. Cyberghost says you can use a VPN to connect to a UK server when you register your Netflix account, but we doubt many people will bother.

Let’s be honest, the vast majority of content available in the UK library is also available in the US library so we’d recommend that you just connect to Netflix US and not lose any sleep over it!

All you need to do to get Netflix USA working is connect to one of the streaming-optimized US servers using the Cyberghost client. These are clearly labeled by use making it nice and easy to get going.

Cyberghost Netflix

Despite not being quite as flexible as some of the other providers on this list, we quite like Cyberghost’s approach here. Decide what it is your customers really want and then make sure you nail it before worrying about anything else. And when it comes to unblocking Netflix US, Cyberghost really does nail it.

Cyberghost won our Best Value Award in the BestVPN.com Awards 2019. It offers all of the features you’d expect from a premium VPN, unblocks Netflix with ease and does it at a very reasonable price.

Cyberghost is backed by an industry-leading 45-day money back guarantee so if you have any issues at all, you’ve got plenty of time to change your mind.

3. PrivateVPN

Unblocks: Netflix US | Netflix UK | Netflix Canada
Supports almost all regional Netflix libraries

Supported Platforms: Windows | macOS | iOS | Android | Amazon Fire TV

PrivateVPN boasts perhaps the widest support for regional Netflix libraries. In fact, as well as what we call the Big 3 (Netflix UK, USA & Canada), PrivateVPN officially supports the following regions:

  • France
  • Japan
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Germany
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Netherlands
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • South Korea

This is a truly epic achievement when you consider the vast majority of VPNs can’t even unblock one library on a good day!

PrivateVPN seems to have turned unblocking Netflix into something of a science. This is, in part, thanks to their use of public dynamic dedicated IPs which are assigned when you connect to servers in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Netherlands, Ukraine, Switzerland, the UK, France and the USA.

This means, when you connect to a server in one of these locations, you are the only person on the planet with that IP address. Once you disconnect, the IP address is ditched.

Private VPN etflix

The US servers that work with the American Netflix library are: LA, NYC (1, 2 & 4), Chicago (1) and Buffalo but you won’t need to remember this as the Netflix-supported servers are clearly labeled within the app.

PrivateVPN offers livechat support and has a 30 day money back guarantee If you are looking to unblock other regional Netflix libraries on top of US Netflix, PrivateVPN is impossible to beat.

4. ExpressVPN

Unblocks: Netflix US | Netflix UK | Netflix Canada
Other regions: The Netherlands, Australia, Japan

Supported Platforms: Windows | macOS | iOS | Android | Router

No VPN Netflix list would be complete without ExpressVPN. These guys were able to unblock American Netflix while most VPN providers were still in their diapers.

ExpressVPN doesn’t make as much of a song and dance about its Netflix unblocking capabilities as some of the other providers on this list; but it doesn’t have to. It just cracks on and gets the job done.

All you need to do is connect to any server is the US (or the UK, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands or Japan if that’s your thing) and you are good to go. While this is about as simple as it gets, it can cause some confusion for first-time users. How do you know which is the best server to connect to?

Thankfully, ExpressVPN has thought of everything and the app comes with it’s own speed test tool baked in. The tools tests your broadband speed against each of ExpressVPN’s vast network of servers. The test provides Download Speed results, Latency Results and a Speed Index score, which combines Latency and Download Speed into a single metric for ease of use. The higher the Speed Index, the better your connection and less chance of buffering when watching Netflix.

Express NetflixWhen it comes to ease of use, ExpressVPN is kind of like the Apple of the VPN world. Their software ‘just works’. It is slick, intuitive and reliable. You can be as hands off as you like but it’s also highly customizable if you want to tinker under the hood.

ExpressVPN is a little pricier than the other providers on the list but customers say that it represents excellent value for money. They won our People’s Choice Award 2019, a testament to just how much their customers love them. If you want a provider that works first time, every time, you won’t go wrong with ExpressVPN.

5. Ivacy

Unblocks: Netflix US

Supported Platforms: Windows | macOS | iOS | Android | Amazon Fire TV

Ivacy is another provider that has become quite proficient at unblocking Netflix USA. We have found the service works successfully with regional libraries but Ivacy doesn’t proclaim to support countries other than the United States/.

The reason Ivacy made our top list is how easy the app makes everything. Most VPNs require you to connect to a server in the US, open Netflix and see if it works. If it doesn’t, you head back to the server list, connect to another server and try again. Even if you find a server that works, it might be overloaded and slow. It can be a real pain!

Ivacy Netflix

What makes Ivacy different is that as well as the standard list of servers, it also has a ‘channels’ that you can select. This is essentially a list of TV channels and other streaming services that are geo-restricted. Everything from BBC iPlayer to NBC and yes, of course, Netflix. All you need to do is click on the channel of your choosing and the Ivacy app will connect to an optimized server in the correct location. That’s it… you’re good to go! The app even opens the relevant website for you so you can be watching restricted content in a matter of seconds.

Ivacy isn’t as well-known as some of the other providers on this list - but we’re big fans here at BestVPN.com. They won our Best for Speed Award 2019, blowing away some of the competitors in our lab tests.

Why are these the best VPNs for Netflix?

As we explain in our Ultimate Netflix Guide, unblocking Netflix is no small undertaking. Netflix is one of the largest media organizations on the planet and spends a lot of money on protecting its content.

So it stands to reason that to stay one step ahead of Netflix requires a significant investment from VPN providers. Most of the VPN services out there don’t have the time, the energy, the money or the desire to go to war with Netflix on a daily basis. But the guys on this list are elite forces. They’ve made it their business to stay one step ahead of the Netflix proxy error.

We have a global team of VPN Netflix testers. These guys test dozens of VPNs every day of the week to ensure they work with Netflix. Apart from having the coolest job in the world, they help us ensure our data is always up to date. We doubt you will, but if you experience any issues with accessing Netflix using the recommended VPNs in this list, just drop us a line in the comments or contact us via one of our social channels and we will investigate.

It’s important to remember that the Netflix VPN situation is fluid. Every day, Netflix blocks IP addresses and every day the VPN providers have to rinse their pool of IPs ready for next battle - so sometimes you may experience temporary issues. Check out our Troubleshooting Netflix VPN Guide on Page. 3 for steps you can take to get up and running again.

Fastest VPNs for Netflix

All VPNs have a negative impact on download speeds but some have more of an impact than others. Streaming ultra-high-definition (4K) content requires a minimum of 25Mbps so you need to choose a VPN that provides consistently fast speeds.

The BestVPN.com Speed Test is the industry’s only fully automated VPN monitoring tool. We run tests across many of the major providers three times a day, seven days a week. The graph below provides real-time results of each of the providers in the Best Netflix VPN list.

Free VPNs for Netflix

It used to be entirely possible to access the full Netflix catalog without spending a penny. Sadly, those days are long gone and anyone that tells you otherwise is either misinformed or dishonest. There are some VPN providers that provide truly awesome free services but they are usually limited in some way or another. For example, some services may work but have a monthly data cap. When you consider streaming Netflix in 4K (UHD) equates to about 3GB of data every hour, using a VPN with a data cap is out of the question.

As we’ve already mentioned, staying one step ahead of Netflix is an expensive and all-consuming process. So much so that the vast majority of VPN providers (both free and paid) have given up. There are very few services out there that consistently beat the ban. And every single only one of them costs a bit of money.

The providers listed above all offer a no quibbles money-back guarantee so if you are really desperate for a freebie, just pay for a month and then request a refund before the MBG expires.
