The second year of the Drone Racing League has begun. Drone enthusiasts from all over the world are excited to see the best drone racers fight it out for this year’s title. In 2017, the league has been given the official title Allianz World Championship Series, due to the fact that the tournament has found sponsorship. In addition, this year all of the drone pilots will also be receiving sponsorship. For anybody who loves watching the high speed drones flying around the courses as they race, the competitions are a must see!
When Is the Drone Racing League?
The 2017 Drone Racing League runs from Tuesday 20 June until Friday 28 July. It is the second ever season of drone racing, and this year promises to have bigger and faster races than last year’s debut league.
This year’s league will include six stages in total. The races will consist of multiple days of semi-finals, finals, and elimination competitions.
Drone Racing League Locations
This year’s race will be held in six different locations: Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Boston, Munich, and London.
The races are going to be bigger and better than ever before, and the drones will be tougher versions of the DRL Racer aircrafts used last year. DRL head of products Ryan Gury promises this will make the drones “much more sexy and attractive.”

How to Watch the Drone Racing League Online
If you want to watch the entirety of this year’s Drone Racing League online (from outside of the US) you will need a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Living outside of the US means that it is very hard to watch the drone racing. Luckily, with a VPN you can pretend to be in the US and enjoy the ESPN and ESPN 2 coverage.
What Is a VPN for Drone Racing?
A VPN is an online service that allows you to pretend to be in a different country. By connecting to a VPN server in the US, you can access streams of ESPN online. However, please remember that you’re not really supposed to unblock geographically-restricted feeds.
That’s why we strongly recommend a reliable VPN that provides strongly implemented OpenVPN encryption. With strong VPN encryption enabled, nobody will be able to see what you’re doing online. That will give you the privacy and security to do as you please online without fear of being caught.
All of the VPNs for sports recommended in our guide provide fast, reliable, and trusted VPN services that are perfect for watching the Drone Racing League.
Live Stream the Drone Racing League on ESPN with a VPN
This year’s Drone Racing League will show on ESPN and ESPN 2. Unfortunately, those two channels are US cable TV stations. For that reason, you will need a valid US cable subscription in order to stream the racing online.
For anyone who doesn’t have a valid US cable subscription, the easiest way to get one is by using Sling TV. Sling TV allows people to watch ESPN and ESPN 2 for as little as $20 per month. It is possible to pay monthly, without a contract. Sling TV subscribers get access to over 30 channels of programming, so it really is a bargain! Furthermore, consumers can get a seven-day free trial of Sling TV to test the service.
To stream the Allianz Drone Racing League from outside of the US, we strongly recommend ExpressVPN to unblock ESPN on Sling TV. ExpressVPN has everything you need to enjoy the drone racing in HD quality without fear of lagging or buffering.
