2017 will mark the 116th edition of the French Open, which is held every summer in Paris. The tournament, part of the ATP World Tour, consists of men’s and women’s singles and doubles. Following the Australian Open back in January, the French Open is one of the most important tennis tournaments of the year.

Locally known as the Roland Garros (after the famous French aviator), the French Open will feature some of the most famous names in tennis today. Participants include Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Rafael Nadal, Venus Williams, and Caroline Wozniacki.

How can you watch these tennis superstars duel it out in Paris from the comfort of your sofa? Let me show you!

When Is It?

The 2017 French Open gets underway on Monday 22 May, with qualifying and practice sessions running the next five days. Qualifying sessions will begin at 10:00 CEST (Paris local time).

The first round of the tournament starts on Sunday 28 May, with four rounds leading up to the quarter finals. Start times will be 11:00 CEST for elimination rounds, or 14:00 CEST for the quarter and semi finals. The ladies’ final will be on Saturday 10 June with the gentlemen’s final on Sunday 11 June.

How Can I Watch?

Free English French Open Stream – ITV

There are a number of ways to watch the 2017 French Open for free. Perhaps the best option for English-speaking viewers is ITV, a free UK streaming channel. Simply register an account with a UK postcode (you can use the postcode “WC1X 0AA”), get a UK Internet Protocol (IP) address (if you are outside of the UK) and stream away!

Those outside the UK will need a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to unblock ITV and watch the French Open online for free. Follow my directions below to get started now!

Free French Stream – FranceTV

Those looking to watch the French Open for free with some native French commentary can check out FranceTV, another free streaming channel that will be broadcasting Roland Garros.

Unfortunately, FranceTV requires you to be geographically in France in order to watch. Luckily, you can easily get a VPN to unblock FranceTV and watch Roland Garros for free, wherever you are based.

Tennis Streams Sub-reddit

Finally, you can also head over to the Tennis Streams sub-reddit for free streams of almost all the French Open matches.

While the sub-reddit and free streams might be convenient in a pinch, the dangers of these illegal streams are a very real threat to your device’s security. Malware, keyloggers, and heavy spam tend to come bundled with these free streams, which makes investing in a high-quality VPN service practically essential!

  3. Connect to a VPN server that is in a country where you want to stream the French Open (the UK for ITV, or France for FranceTV).
