Anonine Review

Anonine is a VPN provider based in Sweden that has been around since 2009. When they first started they only offered servers based in Sweden, but they have since branched out to offer 32 sever locations around the globe. Anonine, on the whole, is a pretty good company for the services it wishes to provide with plenty of ticks in the security and speed areas but a slight let down in the other categories.

Speed and Performance

We carried out our three primary tests as usual. We had no problems with the IP test and the DNS leak test was exemplary. Their VPN speed tests were decent with both OpenVPN and PPTP, with PPTP showing slightly improved speeds as expected. Through OpenVPN, we reached speeds of around 13 Mbps, while through PPTP we saw speeds of around 14.30 Mbps.

Pricing and Plans

Like nearly every other VPN provider out there Anonine provides you with the same set plan but with increased price discounts given if you sign up for a longer period of time. Their cheapest - 12 month - plan is $4.62/month which puts it's pricing in the average category. They do not offer a free trial, but according to their Terms of Use, they do offer a 7-day money back guarantee (which is not fully evident anywhere else on their website). If you require a refund past the initial 7-day period, they claim to consider those requests on a case-by-case basis at their sole discretion.

Privacy and Security

Anonine allows OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP encryption mechanisms which is good news, and they use both 256-bit as well as 128-bit. They use Dynamic Dedicated IPs which is good news and unlike many providers they regularly replace their stack of IP addresses with new ones to provide an extra level of protection. They collect absolutely no personal information (unless required for payment).

Being Swedish-based is a fantastic bonus point for this company as there are very little laws for VPNs and they aren't required to log in any matter and the country has been known for their internet and freedom concerns hence so many companies are based there. You can read more about Sweden and VPNs here.

They have a good ToS and all relevant information can found across the website. They take pride in the fact that they do not collect any personal information and the only logs they keep are basic connection logs and even these are only stored for an hour.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Anonine offers a solid option for those interested in maintaining their online privacy and for those interested in accessing the US Netflix library. The one big drawback which is important to note is their lack of dedicated client software on any platform. They rely on third-party clients to facilitate the VPN connection. While this may not be a big deal for experienced VPN users, if you're not super tech-oriented or if you're new to VPNs, then this may not be exactly what you're looking for, as it is not exactly "plug-and-play".

Anonine is not Swedish based anymore. they have been bought by a company based in seychelles. And the swedish employees and owner are no longer with the company.

Hi locki, Thanks. I was vaguely aware of this, but your comment reminds me that we really should update this 2014 review!

Hi Anthony, Anonine uses the generic open source Tunnelblick client for OpenVPN connections. macOS Sierra (10.12) is very new, so it might be worth trying the latest Beta version of Tunnelblick instead. As Anonone uses third party software that has yet to be updated for macOS Sierra compatibility, this issue is arguably not its fault, pre se., but it should have provided better support and offered a full refund if it could not help you. Bad Anonine.

Finger weg!!! ++++ I can only totally discourage this Provider! They write their positive reviews in the Web itself, totally slow (even slower than some free provider). They offers me via email a 30 day money back trial, but thats not true. They refund nothing. Hands off!!!

Hi Drew, This review was published in August 2014, so things may very well have changed.
